Great Pyrenees Dog Breed Temperament:
The Great Pyrenees dog breed has a natural independent instinct that will try to use the pushover maneuver to unsuspecting new owners. This is a method of manipulation that gives them such willful and obstinate personality traits. This raises the stakes when it comes to training, because they choose what they want to listen to most of the time. This is why a future owner of a Great Pyrenees must show them, time and time again that you are alpha (leader) of the pack, and what you say goes. Hand signals or clicker training in particular are more agreeable to the Pyrenees.
All of these characteristics are not faults, they have long since been bred in for the purpose of being a guardian, which makes this breed named as one of the most likely dog breeds to stop an intruder. This is just another reason that a future Pyrenees dog breed owner needs establish yourself as first ranking officer, its very easy for them to self appoint themselves as pack leader.
One thing to add is that if you recently landscaped your yard and don’t want it to look like a gunnery range, maybe the Pyrenees is not for you. Most Great Pyrenees owners just resign themselves to having no ambitions for a luxurious backyard garden. The front yards look great though!

Great Pyrenees Dog Breed Appearance:
The Great Pyrenees has several acceptable shades of fur coat color. Most of the body is blanketed in white with a mixed bag of gray, rust, or tan spots or full mask shaped markings that can also trickle down along the body and tail. It should be said now that the Great Pyrenees sheds a LOT. Owners have reported not only finding hair on clothes in closets and drawers, but in their food as well!
As Great Pyrenees grow into maturity that beautiful long coat will only grow thicker and often time the colored spots along the back and tail fades out to give the illusion they were born all white. Random spots have been known to form throughout the lives of some Great Pyrenees dogs. Great Pyrenees that are born all white tend to not harbor the desired jet black nose and eye liner around the rim of the eyes. All white Great Pyrenees are not desired, but are known to be much more common in non certified breeding circles. Hi, IM trying to located an extra large young white Pyrenees Dog. I would like to find a big male with large bones and a block head. IM looking for someone that has a beautiful dog with a gentle temperament that would make a great pet and would like to find a good home for him. I lost my last Pyrenees named Sabre about 10 months ago and I am now ready to find another dog. I purchased Sabre when he was 18 months old from a breeder that was downsizing and wanted to find a good loving home for her dog. Sabre lived to about 13yrs. I’ve been told he lived a long life for this breed . Do you have such a dog or if you know where I might find one? I live in Orange county California but would consider a dog out of state. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks so much,

    Randy

To guard We paid $50 bucks to save Ralph from being drowned because his Goat farmer was stuck on white only dogs. Silly cause this guy is the best personality of any dog I have ever known. Just had to use a squirt gun when he was a pup to keep him off the the chickens. He says home and keeps all other animals and dogs off the property!
