This is on the one hand great, because it will take less time to perfect tricks or be taught simple manners. On the other hand some behaviors you didn’t want your Keeshond to learn get adapted rapidly as well. Keeshonden have long since been trained to be guide dogs for the blind, service dogs, and therapy dogs. Keeshond Dog Breed Appearance:
The plume of the Keeshonden tail is a defining characteristic of the Keeshond dog breed. The curl should be tight and overlaying the back. The coloring should be cream or silver with a black tip. To stick true to the Keeshond dog breed standard of the AKC the ears and muzzle should also be solid black. Graying or white shading around the mouth will develop throughout the age of the Keeshond. American shows allow this to be an acceptable standard, but many Keeshond dog breeders don’t desire this in their pups. Keeshond Dog Breed History and Origin:
Just on appearance it is easy to see what breeds played a roll in the development of the Keeshond dog breed. The Keeshond dog breed has a curly tail like the Samoyed and Chow Chow, as well as almost identical coloring from the Norwegian Elkhound. The companionable characteristics and facial expression come from the Finnish Spitz and Pomeranian.
Early Keeshonden were kept on farms and boats as guard dogs, and were very popular during the late 1700′s in Holland. Over time the Keeshond became the symbol of the Dutch Patriot political party. The leader Kees de Gyselaer had owned a dog resembling the Keeshond dog breed we see today, and thus named the dog breed “Kees” that further developed to Keeshond centuries later. Keeshond Dog Breed Mortality:
The Keeshond dog breed is generally a healthy dog breed, but does have a few health concerns. Preventative measures will always help to alleviate hip and joint issues that generally afflict large breeds, but also may develop in smaller breeds like the Keeshond dog breed. Rough play before the age of two will greatly increase the risks of developing luxating patella or arthritis, which are very painful conditions. Some forms of Melanoma have plagued the Keeshond dog breed. Epilepsy has also been found to burden the Keeshond dog breed as well. Moderate exercise and good nutrition are key elements that will aid in the development of a healthy adult dog. Most Keeshond dogs will live to be 12 to 14 years of age with appropriate care.

    Hi!
I am from South-Africa and are desperately looking for a Keeshond to buy. I can find no Keeshond in South Africa. When I was a little girl I had a Keeshond but the breed “disappear” in SA. Is there somebody who can sell me 2 registered dogs? I shall be interested to import 2 dogs.
    Thanks
