Morkie Dog Breed Origins:
When the Morkie Dog Breed was first created it was known as the Yorktese. They were developed, as many other designer breeds are, to bring out the best characteristics of both parent breeds. Generally the history of the breed is traced back to two distinct lines, one in Canada and the other in the United States. Their first appearance came during the 1990s, so this is definitely a newer cross-breed. The common elements are size, playfulness and intelligence. As a “designer” cross-breed they are not able to be recognized under AKC guidelines or similar Canadian or European groups, however there a few clubs that accept and show the breed on a regular basis. Lack of AKC recognition has not decreased the popularity of the Morkie at all. Litter sizes will be similar to that of the parent breeds.
